“May Day is Lei Day”, is a celebration of Lei that has been going on for 95 years, here in Hawaiʻi. May 1, is a day that we wear fresh flower lei to celebrate the tradition of wearing lei in the islands. We invite you to participate in this year's lei making contest and showcase your lei making talents. We are excited to see the creative and artistic creations of the entries.
All lei will be registered at gate 6A next to the Hawaiʻi village (McDonalds side, see map below) from 10:00am - 12:00pm on May 1, 2023. Judging will begin at 12:30pm and winners will be notified by 2:00pm.
There will be 3 prizes in each category
1st place: $200.00
2nd place: $150.00
3rd place: $100.00
Most popular $200.00 (most popular lei as voted on by all the visitors to the Hawaiʻi village that day)
The following are the 4 Lei Categories:
- Fresh Lei (flowers and foliage)
- Flowers only Lei (all fresh flowers of any type or combination)
- Edible Lei (candy, fruits, vegetables. No meats)
- Recyclable Lei (artificial, paper, plastic, wood, glass, metal, etc.)
