4TH ANNUAL HIMENE PATITIFA CONTEST IS MUSIC TO VISITORS' EARS AT THE POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER'S PACIFIC THEATER

World-Class Competition Makes Its Debut in Hawai'i

La‘ie, HI – Music transcends all cultures and this fall, will cross an entire ocean for the 4th Annual Himene Patitifa Contest International Final on September 27 at the Polynesian Cultural Center. The competition, originally held in Tahiti, makes its debut at the PCC, where the most beautiful voices from the shores of Asia to Polynesia to North and South America will join together at the PCC's majestic Pacific Theater.

This world-class event will unite the Pacific in the one language that everyone can understand, music. The competition encourages upcoming artists, songwriters and composers to share their original works with the rest of the world. Participants must be citizens of countries or U.S. states that have at least one coast touching the Pacific Ocean. At the competition, participants will perform original songs and music that can be written in their respective languages. The event promises to showcase only the best, as many competitors have already proven their talent during preliminary competitions in their home countries.

"Hawai'i is considered the melting pot of the Pacific, and hosting this event at the Polynesian Cultural Center is a perfect fit," said Raymond Mariteragi, cultural island director at the PCC. "For many of the performers, traveling to Hawai'i to compete is a chance of a lifetime. For the PCC, it is an honor to have so many of the world's best artists share their talents, and we hope that this event continues to grow every year."
Participants will be competing for a cash prize and will also be included on a compilation album of the songs performed at the competition.
